DRAINING THE FUEL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM
WARNING
When handling fuel, personnel must take appropriate measures to minimize the risk of ire,
explosion, injury, illness, and contamination of personnel and the environment. Fire safety
precautions and spill control containment measures must be strictly observed. Failure to follow
this warning may result in injury or death to personnel.
FDS must be properly grounded prior to connection of any fuel hoses or to electrical supply.
Failure to properly ground the FDS may result in injury or death to personnel.
The FDS has three drain ports located at the pump, the ilter, and the fuel nozzle. This work package discusses
how to drain the suction hose, pump, ilter shell, discharge hose and fuel nozzle. It also discusses how to drain the
complete system.
Drain Suction Hose
1.  Position a drain pan (Figure 22, Item 2) beneath the pump inlet coupling (Figure 22, Item 1). The drain pan
should be of suficient size to hold between 3 to 5 gallons of fuel.
2.  Ensure the valve at the fuel source is turned off.
