TM 5-4320-305-24 2-24.  REPLACE/REPAIR THROTTLE ACTUATOR, QUICK RELEASE LINK, AND MAGNETIC PICKUP (Continued) 3  Inspect the rod end bushings for elongation or wear that would cause binding or jamming. 4  Inspect for stripped or damaged threads on the threaded rods, and the screw captive in the actuator  arm.  If threads are worn or damaged in the area of the locking nuts, replace the damaged component. 5  Check operation of the quick-disconnect fittings on the linkage.  The fittings should hold firmly when connected and not bind or catch when released. WARNING Severe burns, illness, or death could occur if diesel fuel oil is not handled  carefully.    Use  in  a  well-ventilated  area  away  from  open flame,  arcing  equipment,  ignition  sources,  heaters,  or  excessive heat.  Do not inhale vapor.  DO NOT SMOKE. Death  or  serious  injury  could  occur  if  compressed  air  is  directed against the skin.  Do not use compressed air for cleaning or drying unless the pressure is/has been reduced to 30 psi (2.11 kgcm2) or less.  When working with compressed air always use chip guards, eye protection, and other personal protective equipment. 6  Use a lint-free cloth dampened with diesel fuel oil to clean the actuator.  Remove all traces of grease and dirt.  Dry actuator  with  compressed  air.    Inspect  for  minor  rust,  corrosion,  or  other  damage.    Replace  if  severely  rusted  or damaged. REPAIR: 1  Do not attempt to straighten or reshape quick release link components or lever extension.  Alinement and dimensions of these components are critical to proper operation of the engine throttle and speed control.  Replace components that are bent or distorted. 2  If the actuator is damaged or has malfunctioned, it must be replaced.  A faulty actuator could result in overspeed or overload conditions that would seriously damage the engine. 3  Remove rust, corrosion, or dirt from the sensor and terminals of the magnetic pickup.  Replace pickup if insulation is cracked, if sensor head is damaged, or if threads along the body are stripped. 2-97
