Section III - TROUBLESHOOTING
3-7. GENERAL - This section provides information useful in diagnosing and correcting unsatisfactory operation or
failure of the centrifugal pump and its components. Each trouble symptom stated is followed by a list of probable causes,
with the possible remedy listed opposite.
NOTE: Refer to TM 5-2805-259-14 for engine troubleshooting instructions.

PUMP ASSEMBLY FAILS TO START
Probable Cause

Battery weak or dead
Service & recharge or replace battery
Engine defective

Impeller frozen
Clean or replace impeller (para. 4-2 & 4-3.E)
Impeller clogged or Jammed
Disassemble & clean (para. 4-2)

PUMP ASSEMBLY FAILS TO PRIME OR FAILS TO DELIVER CAPACITY
Probable Cause

No initial prime charge
Prime pump (para. 2-8)
Check valve defective
Replace check valve (para. 4-4)
Leak in lines or connections
Tighten or replace hose or piping
Suction line or strainer clogged
Clean suction line and strainer
Liner of suction hose collapsed
Replace suction hose
Suction lift too high
Move pump closer to water source level
Discharge head to high
Reduce total head
Engine speed too low
Increase engine speed (TM 5-2805-259-14)
Leakage through shaft seal
Replace shaft seal (para. 4-3)
Improper impeller clearance
Adjust impeller clearance (para. 4-3)
Impeller broken, damaged, or worn
Replace impeller (para. 4-2 & 4-3. E)
