The sludge which accumulates in the bottom of fuel storage
tanks gives off explosive vapors.
Inhalation of vapors can
cause lead poisoning.
When emptying tanks, ample ventilation
must be provided to carry off harmful fumes.
Residual sludge
must be disposed of in accordance with local policy.
Do not disassemble or replace tank components while tank is
f i l l e d w i t h f u e l .
Failure to heed this warning can result in
injury to personnel.
D O n o t d r o p s h a r p o b j e c t s o n t h e t a n k.
Walk on tank as
l i t t l e a s p o s s i b l e .
When walking on the tank, wear soft-
soled shoes.
Do not drive vehicles over tank.
Failure to
observe these precautions may result in punctures, tears, or
scuffs on the tank.
D o n o t d r o p o r s t r i k e t a n k f i t t i n g s o r a c c e s s o r i e s.
All
metal items are aluminum and can be easily damaged.
Place servicing hose between tank requiring service and 3 inch gate
valve.
Remove protective dust caps and plugs from hose and valve con-
nections.
Connect servicing hose to 3 inch gate valve male quick-disconnect
coupling.
Connect opposite end of servicing hose to tank requiring service.
Open 3 inch gate valve by turning valve handle counterclockwise to
desired position.
Observe tanks, hoses and valves during the entire fuel transfer
operation and monitor metering source.
I f p r o b l e m s a r i s e,
immediately stop fuel transfer and notify supervisor.
When tank is full, stop fuel transfer.
Close 3 inch gate valve by turning valve handle fully clockwise.
Disconnect servicing hose from tank.
Reinstall protective dust caps and plugs.
