TM 5-4320-305-24 2-46.  REPLACE SPRINGS This task covers: a. Removal b. Installation INITIAL SETUP Tools Shop    equipment,    automotive    maintenance and repair, common no. 1 Tool kit, general mechanics automotive REMOVAL: 1 Position jack under frame just in front of wheel on side to be raised. 2 Jack  up  frame  enough  to  relieve  tension  on  leaf spring (1), and position jack stands under frame. 3 Loosen  two  nuts  (2)  on  each  U-bolt  (3).    If  much tension  is  noticed,  adjust  jack  height  to  lessen tension. 4 Remove    two    nuts    (2),    two    lockwashers    (4), shackle (5), and U-bolts (3). 5 Remove two nuts (6) and two bolts (7) to remove spring hangers (8). INSTALLATION: 1 Install spring hangers (8) on frame with upper bolt (7) and nut (6). 2 Position  leaf  spring  (1)  and  install  spring  hanger lower  bolt  (7)  and  nut  (6)  through  spring  hangers (8) and spring (1).  Tighten securely. 3 Install U-bolts (3) from bottom side of axle (9) and install shackle (5), lockwashers (4), and mounting nuts (2).  Tighten securely. 4 Jack  up  each  side  of  frame  in  turn  and  remove jack stands. 2-183
