2-46. REPLACE SPRINGS

REMOVAL:
1
Position jack under frame just in front of wheel on
side to be raised.

Jack up frame enough to relieve tension on leaf
spring (1), and position jack stands under frame.

Loosen two nuts (2) on each U-bolt (3). If much
tension is noticed, adjust jack height to lessen
tension.

Remove two nuts (2), two lockwashers (4),
shackle (5), and U-bolts (3).

Remove two nuts (6) and two bolts (7) to remove
spring hangers (8).
INSTALLATION:
1
Install spring hangers (8) on frame with upper bolt
(7) and nut (6).

Position leaf spring (1) and install spring hanger
lower bolt (7) and nut (6) through spring hangers
(8) and spring (1). Tighten securely.

Install U-bolts (3) from bottom side of axle (9) and
install shackle (5), lockwashers (4), and mounting
nuts (2). Tighten securely.
4
Jack up each side of frame in turn and remove
jack stands.
