The tank is now fully assembled. Make certain that a dust
cap covers the unused valve coupling.

Berm Construction (See Figure 2-7).
The site must be bermed to contain
the flow of fuel in case of tank rupture or leakage. The tank may be
f i l l e d b e f o r e i t i s b e r m e d i f t h e s i t u a t i o n d i c t a t e s . H o w e v e r , n o r m al
p r o c e d u r e s a r e t o b e r m t h e s i t e a r e a b e f o r e t h e t a n k i s f i l l e d . An
erected berm (Figure 2-8) should have the following characteristics:
(1) At least a 5 foot (1.5 m) working area between the tank and the
berm walls.
( 2 ) W a l l h e i g h t s h o u l d b e 1 . 5 f e e t ( 4 5 . 7 c m ) . T h i s w i l l p r o v i d e an
internal volume of at least 937.5 cubic feet (26.61 cubic meters)
or 7,000 gallons.
(3) Walls should be protected against erosion with a covering of sod
or stone
