3-28. REPLACE MUFFLER

Unit must be cool.
REMOVAL:
WARNING
Handling a hot muffler can cause severe burns. Allow unit to cool before handling.

Remove two screws (1) and washers (2).

Remove heat shield (3).

Remove three screws (4) and washers (5).

Remove protective screen (6).

Remove two nuts (7).
6
Remove muffler (8) and gasket (9). Discard
gasket (9).
INSPECTION:
Inspect screws, nuts, washers, heat shield, protective screen, and muffler 'for rust, corrosion, or other damage.
Replace if necessary.
INSTALLATION:

Install new gasket (9) and muffler (8).

Install two nuts (7). Tighten nuts (7) securely.

Install protective screen (6).
