3-17. TEST/REPAIR STARTER MOTOR (Continued)
OPERATIONAL CHECK:
CAUTION
Under no-load conditions the starter will exceed safe rpm.
Retest assembled starter as in TEST procedure. Connect starter (1) in series with two fully charged 12-volt batteries (2)
and connect a remote starting switch (3) as shown. Energize starter by momentarily depressing switch; observe whether
overrunning clutch drive (4) moves forward and begins rotating at a high rate of speed. If it does not, consult the
symptom chart in TEST and proceed accordingly.
