2-40. TEST/REPLACE/REPAIR TRAILER WIRING HARNESS (Continued)
1 Disconnect trailer wiring harness (1) from taillights (2) and clearance lights (3) at connectors (4).
2 Remove nine screws (5) and nine clamps (6).
3 Remove ground lug (7) from frame assembly (8).
4 Carefully disconnect intervehicular connector (9) from trailer wiring harness (1).
5 Slide trailer wiring harness (1) out of grommets (10).
INSPECTION/REPAIR:
1 Inspect trailer wiring harness for broken or burned insulation, frayed wires, and loose or broken connectors. If
insulation is damaged, remove damaged section and inspect the individual wires. Replace any damaged wires.
Replace damaged or loose connectors. Install replacement wires and tape harness with several layers of insulating
tape.
2 Check grommets for brittleness. Replace brittle or damaged grommets.
3 Check for missing or damaged clamps. Replace as required.
4 Inspect intervehicular connector for broken or burned insulation, frayed wires, and loose or broken contacts. Inspect
for missing or broken contact pins. If insulation is damaged, remove damaged section and inspect individual wires.
Remove any damaged wires. Install replacement wires and tape connector wires with several layers of insulating
tape. Replace damaged or loose connectors. If contacts are missing or broken, disconnect connector from wires and
install new connector.
INSTALLATION:
1 Slide trailer wiring harness (1) through grommets (10).
2 Connect intervehicular connector (9).
3 Install clamps (6) and screws (5).
4 Install ground lug (7).
5 Connect trailer wiring harness (1) to taillights (2) and clearance lights (3) at connectors (4).
