TM 5-4320-305-10 Section III.  MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES 3-3. INTRODUCTION This section contains maintenance procedures which are the responsibility of the operator. 3-4. CLEANING BATTERY CABLES WARNING Do not smoke or use open flame or spark-producing equipment in the vicinity of battery. CAUSTIC CHEMICALS IN BATTERIES Serious  injury  could  occur  from  the  careless  handling  of  storage batteries  or  battery  electrolyte  (acid).    If  acid  is  splashed  on  the skin, wash the affected area immediately with plenty of clean water. If  acid  is  splashed  in  the  eyes,    wash  immediately  with  plenty  of clean water and get medical attention. Avoid making contact across the two battery posts.  This can result in severe arcing. 1 Open battery box top (1). 2 Use a wire brush to gently remove visible corrosion on outside of cable terminal lugs (2). 3 Close battery box top. 3-12
