TROUBLESHOOTING
a.
Table 3-1 lists common malfunctions which you may find during operation or maintenance of the centrifugal
pump unit or its components. You should perform the tests/inspections and corrective actions in the order listed.
b.
This manual cannot list all malfunctions that may occur, nor all tests or inspections and corrective actions.
If a malfunction is not listed or is not corrected by listed corrective actions, notify your supervisor.

1.
ENGINE FAILS TO CRANK OR CRANKS AT LOW SPEED
WARNING
Overfilling will cause battery electrolyte to surface. Serious injury
or blindness could occur from careless handling of batteries or
battery electrolyte (acid). If acid is splashed on the skin, wash the
affected area immediately with plenty of clean water. If acid is
splashed in the eyes, wash immediately with plenty of clean water
and get medical attention.
Step 1.
Read the BATTERY VOLTMETER gage.
If the reading is in the green, notify organizational maintenance of the engine malfunction.
If the reading is not in the green, proceed to step 2.
Step 2.
Remove filler caps and check fluid level in battery.
NOTE
Use distilled water or a good grade drinking water (excluding
mineral water) to bring electrolyte to proper level.
If fluid level is low, add water up to split ring. Replace filler caps and wipe excess fluid from
battery.
If the battery fluid level is not low, or the battery voltage fails to increase within an hour of adding
water, notify organizational maintenance.
