Table 4-1. Organizational Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services
During PMCS it maybe necessary to run the engine. Since the
pump is directly coupled to the engine, the pump will run
when the engine runs. Running the pump for longer than a
few seconds without liquid in the volute will damage the pump.
When necessary to run the pump for longer than a few seconds,
make sure that suction and discharge hoses are installed and a
source of water is available. Prime pump, start engine to dupli-
cate normal operation and prevent pump from overheating.

Procedures
Death or serious injury could occur if
fuel is not handled carefully. Use in a
well-ventilated area away from open
flame, arcing equipment, ignition
sources, heaters, or excessive heat.
Always store fuel in proper, marked
containers. DO NOT SMOKE.
Check fuel lift pump (1) for leakage. Check
operation of primer lever (2).
