TM 10-4320-343-14 WARNING To   prevent   rolling   or   sliding,   do   not   work   on   equipment   that   is   not   securely stabilized.  Ensure both wheels are secure.  Failure to obey this warning may result in serious personal injury. a. Loosen two wing nuts (figure 3-2, 1), one on each side, that secure holding strap (2) to battery cases (3). b. Let eye bolts (4) drop away from strap slots (5). c. Remove and retain strap (2). d. Remove and retain battery access covers (6). e. Inspect battery cables (7 and 8) for corrosion.  If corroded, notify unit maintenance. f. Remove and retain six caps (9) on each battery. NOTE Electrolyte level must cover lead plates and be to a level at the lower portion of the fill hole. g. Visually check the electrolyte level of all cells. WARNING Do   not   fill   battery   without   rubber   gloves   and   protective   clothing.      Electrolyte causes serious burns.  Failure to obey this warning may result in personal injury or death. h. When electrolyte level is low, add water only. i. Install six caps (9) on each battery. j. Install battery access covers (6). k. Position strap (2) with flat side up on battery access covers(6). l. Position eye bolts (4) in strap slots (5). m. Tighten wing nuts (1) on eye bolts (4) together to apply equal pressure on strap (2). 3-7
