Removal b.   Cleaning   and   Inspection Initial Setup: Equipment  Conditions: l Spring removed (upper torque rod replacement only) (para  4-52). Tools/Test Equipment: l General mechanic’s tool kit l Common no. 1 shop set c. Installation Materials/Parts: l Scrub brush (Item 3, Appendix E) l Dry cleaning solvent (Item 16, Appendix E) l Two cotter pins NOTE l  Upper  and  lower  torque  rods  are  replaced  the  same  way.  Upper  torque  rod  is illustrated. l Ball assemblies are mounted in rubber and can be moved out of normal alinement for removal. 1. Remove two cotter pins (2) and slotted nuts (1) from torque rod (5). Discard cotter pins. 2. Tap threaded end of ball assembly (4) with a soft hammer to loosen torque rod (5) from axle bracket (3). 3. Remove torque rod (5) from mounting bracket (7). TA702761 4-110
