TM 5-4520-256-14 3-17.  TEST/REPAIR STARTER MOTOR This task covers: a. Test c. Cleaning/lnspection/ e. Assembly b. Disassembly d. Repair f. Operational Check INITIAL  SETUP: Test Equipment Materials/Parts Batteries (12 volt) (2 required) Dry cleaning solvent (Item 17, Appendix C) Starter switch w/leads Rosin flux core solder (Item 16, Appendix C) Tools Equipment Condition Shop set, automotive repair, field Para Condition Description maintenance, basic 2-34 Starter motor removed from engine. TEST: CAUTION Under no-load condition the starter will exceed safe rpm. Connect starter motor (1) in series with two fully charged 12-volt batteries (2) and connect a remote starting switch (3) as shown.  Energize starter by momentarily depressing switch; observe whether overrunning clutch drive (4) moves forward and begins rotating at a high rate of speed.  If it does not, consult the following symptom chart. 3-80
