TM 5-4320-305-24 2-48.  REPLACE/REPAIR AXLE, WHEELS, AND TIRES (Continued) 3 Position jack stand next to jack. 4 Lower jack to allow weight to rest on jack stand. 5 Remove six wheel nuts (1) and wheel (2). 6 Deflate inner tube (4). 7 Remove tire (3) and tube (4). 8 Pry off grease cup (5) to provide access to cotter pin (6) and axle nut (7). 9 Remove cotter pin (6), axle nut (7), lockwasher (8), bearings (9), integral hub and brake drum (10), and grease seal (11) from axle (12).  Discard grease seal (11). NOTE Do not remove axle from frame unless it is cracked or distorted, has severely damaged threads or scored or pitted bearing shoulders. 10 Leave frame supported on jack stand.  Place jack under frame just in front of wheel on other side and raise frame slightly. 11 Install jack stand next to jack and lower jack slightly to allow weight to rest on jack stand. 12 Support axle (12) and remove nuts (13), shackles (14), and U-bolts (15) from axle (12). 13 Remove axle (12). 2-186
