TM 10-4320-324-14 5-7 Alternator Assembly Testing (CONT). a. Testing. (1)    Regulator test (open). NOTE Alternator  should  be  mounted  in  vise,  shaft  rotating  at  3000  RPM,  with  jumper  wire  installed  between  B and the field terminal. (a)    Measure voltage at terminal A.  Meter should read approximately 14 volts. (b)    Increase RPM to 4000.  (Clockwise as viewed facing the fan.) (c) Measure voltage at terminal A.  Voltage should increase to 15 to 16 volts. (d) Readings other than these indicate the alternator is open and should be replaced. 5-8
