TM 10-4320-307-10 3-6.1 Cleaning Battery Cables. WARNING Do not smoke or use open flame or spark-producing equipment in the vicinity of battery. CAUSTIC CHEMICALS IN BATTERIES Serious injury could occur from the careless handling of storage batteries or battery electrolyte (acid).  If acid is splashed on the skin wash, the affected area immediately with plenty of clean water.  If acid is splashed in the eyes, wash immediately with plenty of clean water and get medical attention. CAUTION Avoid making contact across the two battery posts.  This can result in severe arcing. 1. Open battery box clips (1). 2. Remove battery box cover (2). 3. Lift and rotate battery terminal covers (3) to expose terminal (4). 4. Use a wire brush to gently remove visible corrosion on outside of cable terminal lugs (4).  Use grease to coat the battery terminals to prevent corrosion 3-11
